Property in Portimao – Real Estate Market Overview

Portimao is the largest town in the Algarve and lies on the river Arade and over the years has become one of the top holiday destinations in Portugal. Portimao real estate is a mixture of late 19th, early 20th century buildings in the older part of the town, and newer apartment blocks surrounding the town in the up and coming areas and around the stunning marina and beautiful beach, giving a huge selection of properties to choose from in this great holiday location.

The town centre is fantastic for shopping and has all sorts of shops to visit, as well as designer boutiques and traditional shops selling local products. There are also shopping malls with food halls and cinemas and there is also an abundance of bars, restaurants, café’s and plenty of nightlife which is why Portimao real estate has become so popular over the years as it offers everything you could possibly want, all in one place, which is ideal for those of you who do not want to travel.

Portimao has a quieter part of town which is on the river front with lovely gardens near the bridge, which is where Portimao has its famous fish restaurants, offering a great place to relax away from the crowds and from where you can take boat trips to see the dolphins or visit the caves.

Another reason Portimao real estate has become so popular is that Portimao has a lot of events that go on during the year such as powerboat racing, special night club events on the beach, sports events and lots of exhibitions and more recently the famous motor racing circuit which has a brand new housing complex offering 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments which come with an exclusive events package, offering a fantastic investment potential.

There is an abundance of property around the beach called Praia da Rocha and in and around Portimao. Real estate is mostly apartments, but all within walking distance of the town centre and if you want to be slightly out of the town there are luxury villas available in private estates. The area just to the west, Praia do Vau, also has plenty of apartments around the beach, set in private complexes with swimming pools, so whatever your choice, Portimao has it all.
