São Brás de Alportel was originally a Roman settlement, later inhabited by the Moors and is a beautiful area of the Central Algarve. It was originally a wealthy cork producing town, but is now a popular tourist town surrounded by beautiful countryside and smaller villages, making up the area of São Brás de Alportel. Property for sale here is a mix of old and new with typical Algarvean houses, to the larger original merchant houses set in the cobbled streets.

São Brás de Alportel has a traditional centre with lots of cafés and some hotels and restaurants. There is also a wide variety of shops, supermarkets and banks, making it an ideal town as everything is all relatively close together, including the historical part which you can visit the beautiful main church and wander around the narrow streets. It is also great base for exploring the surrounding countryside and is ideal for walkers and nature lovers.
